Ok... not really urgent, but it will make the difference between a great holiday and a horrible one... :D

I am on vacation in South America, and my beloved GS-1 will no longer load film. When I try to wind on, the film does not engage frame 1 and winds to the end of the film. I know of no one here (I am in Paraguay at the moment) who can offer any help. I suspect that the film back has gone wonky, but I have no idea how to fix it. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, from Asuncion...

This happened to me too. If Im not mistaken, there's a switch (like a lever) on the right side of the camera, between the crank and the back. Flip that to the other position. use your already ruined film and rewind it. Load your back and try it. If that doesn't work, try it again and flip that lever to where it was in the first place. Load your already ruined film and try again.

If worse comes to worst, I've uploaded the manual as a pdf for you. Dead Link Removed.

Good luck to you on this.

Thank you... and thanks for the link, unfortunately in this case it does not seem to cover my problem.. If I am not mistaken, that is the multiple-exposure lever, which is already in the correct position. I will try messing around with it a bit. If I have no luck with this I still have a couple of 35mm cameras to fall back on. I think it would be a wise move to invest in a couple of extra backs so that I am not left hanging like this again.

Thanks again. I will give this a shot before turning in tonight. We are off for a two night tour of the Chaco district in the morning. Hopefully I can get things working properly for then.

Cheers,
