When other chemists would talk about "us veterans" to the newbies, they always warned them that I did not suffer fools gladly (those words exactly). And I was in my 30s then.

Like Molli, I'll never be a grumpy old man, but I guess I have my moments. On forums, I've mostly stuck to eye rolls. As long as none of you hack my 'puter's camera, you'll never know which posts make me do it.

I think that older people become grumpy because they realize that society has left them behind, discredits what their generation achieved, and quite frankly just doesn't care about them. When I told a young med tech about having a Ben-Gay day she, being a millennial, had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. But as the Italians say revenge is a dish best served cold. She too will realize eventually what a Ben-Gay day means.

Over the past 5 years, because of my in-laws no longer able to function with sufficient self-sufficiency to remain in their home, I have been around very senior citizens living in 'assisted living' and in residence for the 'memory impaired'. An observation on the topic...

Grumpiness seems to become an affliction caused by the chemical changes in the brain with advanced age, which can impair memory and/or causes people to confuse relationships to others that they have known all their lives, and which causes sudden onset depression in some and extreme grumpiness in others, and even a degree of inflexbility in folks who were previously quite flexible.

There is a very notable difference in the dispositions of those on the 'assisted living' floors .vs those who live on the 'memory impaired' floor. It is all a sad result of old age and the changes in brain chemistry.

I just spent the afternoon and evening celebrating Fathers Day with my nearly 94 year old Dad.

So I know that I am not truly old, and happy about how much youth is still in my Dad.

I'll allow him some grumpiness if he needs it - he has earned it.

Well I had a briar that the birds had planted in front garden shrub area.

It was impeding grass mowing but when I got the garden fork out to lift its roots it had wild rose blossom. So I took it off death row.

We got lots (200% of normal) of rain last 18 months so we are ok till next drout.

rather than just letting it all go, and being... you can get caught in and become a cross ruff... as ya have to release the shutter to get the picture.

I have a couple of grumpy old folks in my life. If they're the standard, then I am definitely NOT grumpy.

Each day is perfect until imperfect humans screw it up.

Your'e lucky my wife had no no need to burn her bra in the 1960's, it had already died of starvation

either that or the altzeimers...

I prefer to take the regression route and return to my childhood behaviour, it's much more fun. I think I'll take up poaching for trout and salmon again. I rekon it's possible to get away with claiming I didn't know I wasn't allowed to fish here if they think I've gone a bit Bokeh.
