D. Ground glass are etched on one side only. The grid pattern can be on either side of the ground glass but usually on the non etched side.
E. Ground glass are not standardized for any format. Measure the ground glass for custom cut from ebay sellers.
The ground/etched/frosted side faces the lens. there may be shims between the ground glass and the mount frame of the back.
With the camera back removed insert a film holder with a sheet of scrap film in it. Remove the darkslide. Measure from the back edge that is the same height (some backs are uneven) on both sides to the film surface at several points across the film. Remove the film holder. Measure to the surface of the ground glass as you did withthe film holder. Shim the ground glass to match the film holder measurement. A rigid straight edge to lay across the back with a toothpick taped to it so the toothpick just touches the film surface is sufficient for the measurement..
