Grip for 4x5 Crown...

After all of my questions on here for my 8x10, I feel funny asking this one for our 'smaller' camera

I'm curious if any of these grips ( shown Dead Link Removed ) would work for our Crown Graphic? I was told sometime back by another photographer that the Linhof grip could be used. However, holes would have to be drilled to 'modify' the fit.

Were there ever any grips made specifically for the Crown? If not...I'd love to know what you all use instead or in place of.

You would need to acquire the grip and the mounting hardware. ...There appears to part of the mount offered w/ the grips on the site you posted....That being said holding the camera with the hand inside the strap with the fingers actually grasping the side of the body gets you closer to the center of mass of the camera and improves balance when hand holding. Most well used graphics show worn paint just inside where the fingers grip the body. With the anatomical grip you are holding farther away from that center and there is more of a twisting force on your hand and wrist. It makes the camera seem heavier

The conventional way to hold a Graphic is to put the left hand under the strap and grip the body with the fingers. This gives amazing control of the camera. It is more balanced because the hold is directly on the camera, not off to the side.

Also, most of the old press photographers had that big Heiland flash unit to hold onto. Between that and the strap, no grip was required. Having said that, I have a Stroboframe flash bracket built for medium format that works great with my Crown when I want to use a flash -- adds a bit of weight, but is good and solid and has an excellent grip. But without flash, I just use the strap.

I, too, have been using the strap (though I've only had my Speed for a few weeks). Works great; by the time I'm ready to actually fire the shutter, I have my right hand holding the camera as well, since I use the focal plane shutter a lot. With the front shutter the only option on the Crown, I'd suggest getting a long cable release you can hold in the right hand and trigger with your thumb with the fingers grip the right side of the body, analog to the left hand grip.
