Greetings to all, my name is David Miller. I am in the US Navy currently deployed to the SW Asian desert. I am from PA originally but am currently homeported out of Port Hueneme, CA. It is about an hour or so north of Los Angeles. I am married but no children. As for the photography, I have been shooting all my life. I took the art more seriously in Aug 2003 when I got my first SLR, an N65. I out grew that body and bought an F4s and have been gathering bodies and glass ever since. My current film and digital bodies are all Nikon minus one Yashica rangefinder. I also have a Calumet CC-400 large format camera. I was directed to this site because I am interested in trying to shoot medium format for landscape shooting. My hope is that after this deployment I can purchase a decent MF setup and practice this format as well. Looking forward to contributing here.

Many thanks for the warm reception. Ron, I really wish I were home right now. If I were, I'd be out in the Sierra Mountains shooting. As is, I am unfortunately still in ______istan. When I get back home, I plan to use my Calumet a lot, especially this winter. I only have one lens (a Scheinder 210) and plan to get another one once I trade in a few film bodies.

Greetings! And thank you for your service. Are you allowed to bring any photo equipment with you during deployment? (And if so, can you photograph anything anyway given the security requirements?)

Stay safe and get home so you can use that Calumet!

Thank you again for the reception here. Yes, I can take photographs but I have to be careful of what it is. I do have some gear with me but to eliminate space and weight, I had to go with my DSLR and one lens. We were given 200lbs for all our gear. My survival gear alone weighs in at about 175lbs. The rest is personal gear. As fo serving, it is a joy for me to do so. There are moments where I'd rather leave, but overall I have had a great experience.

David,

Dump the digi-body and get a film body. We know the ones and zeros in the digi-bodies get real heavy.

Steve, I have quite a few film bodies: F5, 2 F4s, N90s, FM2n, FE2, Yashica Electro 35, and that Calumet. I like shooting both formats.
