I've been lurking for far too long so thought it time to poke my head up and say hi and chip in on any relevant topics
please try to remain calm as I describe myself and my methods, I'm an image maker and use what ever tools are most appropriate for the job. I am self taught, have attended workshops with the late Fay Godwin (fab) John Blakemore (eye opening/life changing, awe inspiring, need I go on) and Peter Cattrell (and the odd golf game) . I mainly want to be involved in discussions on the why of image making rather than the how but will chip in with what ever specific knowledge I have if some one is encountering a problem.
I have various pinhole cameras, several 35m (including the Dynax 7D, be still your beating heart) mamiya rz, horseman LX 5x4 and sinar 10x8. I shoot most of my ART (whatever that is) images on polaroid film either type 55 or colour 10x8, which I either use for transfers or scan and output on my Epson 7800 (I said calm down). I've been fortunate (or stupid if you speak to the bank manager/wife) enough to use the Polaroid 20x24 both here in the UK and in NY, can't recommend it highly enough. I print my type 55 negs on my rapidly dwindling supply of Kodak Ektalure but sadly I dont have a darkroom and used to hire one off of the fabulous printer Melvin Cambettie Davies, so am looking for one to hire in the southeast, anyone know of any?
I've printed cyan, salt and platinum/palladium and am currently investigating the viability of doing enlarged negs on the 7800 and printing in platinum/palladium to replace my silver gelatin prints.
I've self published a book, "Involuntary Sculptures" which is doing very well thank you, anyone want any info on that side of things, ie self publishing feel free to open a thread and or email me direct. Just to give you a heads up I am having an exhibition of my work at the Stephanie Hoppen Gallery in London during may, I will be there on the saturday 6th of May between 2 and 4 if anyone fancies coming along. To help promote the show several of the UK photo mags (including B&W mag, thanks Ailsa) are running a special offer where by anyone buying the book directly from me will recieve a free signed 10x8 print of their choice, subject to availability. So for you APUGers I thought I'd let you know that some images will be digital as I am running very low on stocks of silver gelatin prints. So if you do want to take up this offer let me know you are from APUG and I will let you have first choice on the silver gelatin prints, but dont leave it too long. Are there any RPS members lurking from the southeast, it seems very inactive so haven't joined, fancy trying to convince me to join or are there any clubs down this way I should know about.
I'm represented by the Photographers Gallery and the Atlas Gallery in London, June Bateman in NY and whiteroom in LA. But always on the look for more, hint hint anyone. Cheeky I know but my philosophy is "You don't ask, you don't get".
that's enough for now, off to pick up my 3 year old from nursery, I'm sure we'll talk more later and all comments greatly appreciated.
