I am new to the forum, hello!
It's such a relief to be here. I'm a painter with a background in photography. I'm currently starting up a darkroom and re-entering b&w photography. I've been out of touch and in need of understanding what I need for equipment. I want to work in medium format (just purchased a Hasselblad 500C), A 6x9 pinhole camera and eventually 4x5. Right now I'm looking for enlargers-unclear which one(s) would be best to cover these formats. My hope is to print as small as 6x6 to 20+ inches. I don't want to be confined to 8x10" papers. Thanks very much~
Welcome, Indica. We have a good group of New Englanders who will be able to help you out with getting your darkroom set up. Any 4x5 enlarger will work for all the formats you plan to use. Keep an eye out on classifieds here, and of course, Craigs List and such for darkroom gear. Good luck with your darkroom!
Welcome. This is the best place to get information anything film. As Suzanne said, any 4x5 enlarger should work for you but a more common standard enlarger would work up to the 6x7 format size printing 20x24. You could always, depending on how good you are with your hands, cobble together a LF enlarger. I used a home made enlarger for years. Congrates on scoring a 500C.
Welcome. A couple of years ago I found a Beseler 45 M series enlarger on eBay that was being sold through the State surplus property liquidator. Came from a college darkroom and works fine. Cost: $17.
Indica - hello and welcome to APUG from western Massachusetts. We have a great group of APUGers here in Nu Inglin . We just had a wonderful weekend gathering at Whitey's cottage. Keep an on the New England Region forum for future events. And what part of New England do you hail from?
Hey there, Indica. We are a fairly active group here in New England. Watch for gatherings and come meet everybody. There is a lot of shared knowledge in the group and a few painters as well (like me.) Welcome aboard.
