Greetings from Amsterdam, this summer full of tourists, all with beer belly’s, too tight-fitted t-shirts, Bermuda shorts, tattooed calves and sandals, walking the roadways side by side.
I started photographing in the early sixty’s, with a half-frame Canon, later with a Rollei 35 and a Nikon, always developing and printing at home. The ease of digital kept a firm grip on me for some time, with a 350d, 5d and 5d3. But analogue love doesn’t always die, so now I am using the eos 1n, 1v and above all a Hasselblad 500 c/m with a lot of goodies. I still develop, b&w and C41, but enlarging is a bridge too far, so I scan with a Braun fs120, and print digital with a A2 printer. Will I go ever go analogue all the way? Que sera sera.

Welcome !

Surely the best thing about Amsterdam is that it contains those kind of people around the red light district ? I visit three times or so a year and only ever encounter them when they fall out stoned from a coffee shop into my way when I'm cycling past.

Welcome from Japan, another place also struggling with tourists and tattoos, although it hasn’t quite hit the same levels as Amsterdam. That said, the Japanese have another great term to describe this phenomenon: tourist pollution. Luckily I live and work in an area of Kyoto that is off the tourist track, and trying to avoid tourists is what gets me exploring other parts of the city.

The man [or woman] that uses a Hasselblad is both wise and blessed.
