I need to make a bunch of signs for the local mining park in Tonopah. I want to learn where to get the materials to do the sensitized metal plate signs. Have any of you done that process and can you point me in the right direction. Where do you buy the sensitized plates and chems etc. Thanks all!
Not sure if this is what you are looking for. I have used Datak possitive and negative emulsion and Photo-etch developer, with Ferric Chloride as the etchant on copper boards. Try http://www.philmore-datak.com/DATAK.htm. you can also get the etchant a some Radio Shack stores.
Thanks Allen. Trying to make some descriptive signage for the exhibits and buildings at the Tonopah Historic Mining Park. Just text, nothing fancy, but they would need to live out in the weather for 15 - 20 years. There's a process called metalphoto that works on sensitized anodized aluminum plates, but all my searches just get me to places that want to take my artwork, make me a sign, and mail it to me complete. I want to learn to do it myself.
Beware that these signs don't last forever. I've seen the etched metal signs at various points on the Oregon coast that are illegible. I'd guess they're 20 years old. Tonopah probably doesn't have the same rain and salt problems, though.
