While reading in Photographing People (ISBN: 978-2-940378-07-4) I came across a device called a 'grain screen'. It is supposed to enhance the film grain and is, or should I say was, used as an alternative to fast films developed in paper developer for maximum grain. I've never heard of it. Does any know what a grain screen is? Is it a dark room tool? Or is it used during the shoot? And last but not least, how to make such thing? Now I'm curious, very curious.
It's a piece of processed negative film with a grain patter image n and you sandwich it with your negative during printing to give a coarse grain effext. there were also other effects like fabric texture. Paterson sold them in the 1970's & 80's, I have some somewhere that came with job lots of darkroom equipment.
