When doing reversal b&w, the first development is very strong. There are some claims that this develops the coarsest grains to silver. So when the negative image is bleaced and removed, what's left is finer grains for the second development forming the positive image.
But .. in the highlights...
I'd think the coarse grain from the first development will show up. Not as grain, but as "negative" grain; there will be holes after the bleached/removed grains.. not?
