hey all,

I just bought a Zeiss Jena 135mm lens on ebay for like 20 bucks. It came mounted in a 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 inch lens board. I am looking to buy a speed graphic around Christmas time. I know that with most view cameras the board is 4"x4". My question what is the size of a graflex 4x5 lensboard? Will the lensboard that my lens came mounted on work or do I need to remount?

thanks

The newer graflex graphics, anniversary and later, use a thin stamped metal lensboard. The edges are bent back so as to fit into a slot. Its unique to the graphic cameras. I beleive the older 4x5 graphics us a more standard 4x4 lensboard.

So.. what is the question? Graflex or Graphics? Two different animals not considering series of graphics.

Sorry about the confusion, I am looking at buying a speed graphic. I need the lensboards size. The lens I bought is mounted on a 3 1/4 by 3 1/4 inch lensboard. I was curious if the lensboard on that len that I bought would fit on a speed graphic or if I need to remount.

thanks

Remount. Many older 3.25 x 4.25 cameras and a few others used that size. Many 4x5 cameras such as the Speed Graphic Anniversary and earlier models and many B&J models, used a 4 X 4 board. These boards are easy to make from plywood, MDF, or, in a pinch, cardboard. The 4x5 Pacemaker series of Speed Graphic (after the Anniversary model) used a 3.6" X 3.7" board with turned-down edges as darinwc described.
