I had a Graflex recently given to me and have started down the LF route (goodbye any spare money I had). I also recently got a flash kit so this may be just ignorance and in either case am looking for an answer since most of these older LF lenses I see don't have a flash sync port like the one on the right of the lens below. Whenever I hook up the flash with the PC sync cable (that is the right port type, right?) the flash only fires when I wind the shutter, not when I trip the shutter for an exposure. Am I doing something wrong here, is this a different cable type then I think or am I a complete idiot and am missing something very simple? There is an X mode and I do have the lens set to that.

Edit: Image deleted and linked to since it posted as full size and the BB code resize tag doesn't seem to work.

Something wrong with the shutter. That is not correct behavior.

Set the sync switch to M, connect the flash, cock then trip the shutter. The flash should fire as soon as the trip lever reaches the release point. Any other firing of the flash is a malfunction.
Set the sync switch to X while the shutter is in the released state. Cock, then release the shutter. The flash should fire when the shutter blades reach full open. Any other firing of the flash is a malfunction.
If the shutter flash sync malfunctions have the shutter serviced.
