Graded paper

I invested in some graded Kentmere paper, and am wondering a little bit about printing with it. I've never used graded papers before, but I'm starting to contact print more and more, and want to get away from using filters.
My film developing/exposure is getting consistent so I don't usually have to worry about using anything other than grades 2 or 3 anyway. On the rare occasion will I use a grade 4 filter.

What kind of bulb do you recommend? 15W? How far from the paper do you put the bulb for best results? Or is the paper slower than that? I have no reference at all. To me a light bulb is a light bulb. Any help appreciated.

Use the enlarger as the light source.

I have a 15 watt in a ceiling fixture I added over the bench. An enlarging timer turned it into a light for flashing prints.

Word is Edward Weston just had a hanging bulb.

Keep it up high so the light is even center to edge.

Thanks Ronald. I want to get away from using the enlarger as a light source. I don't have room for an enlarger in my darkroom anymore. Had my darkroom at a friend's house for a couple of years, but he's moving...
There is something simplistic and pure about having nothing but a bulb.

Use a 15 watt bulb. Put it in a canister with a long cord. Then mount it through a pulley which is mounted to the ceiling. Start at a height of about 30 inches. That will get you in the ballpark. If you want to have some fun and add simplicity to your sessions get some amidol and start using it with a water bath.
You will start wondering why you waited so long....

Thom, I've been contact printing on Kentmere Bromide with a 7.5 watt bulb in a cheap work light fixture (without the reflector) about 30 inches above the paper. I found the bulb at Target. I think it is an appliance bulb. It has a standard base size.
