The "smilies" have been updated. To access them you need to be making a post, then click the "Show Smilies" link, see screenshot:
Smilies or 'emoticons' can help convey emotion. For some, they cause anger because they are hated little creatures! :x
If you hate smilies, simply disable them in your user profile. To access your user profile click the "My Profile" link located near the top of the forum page. Then under your profile's preferences section select: "Always enable Smilies: No"
