Got a Really Weird Result with Epson Scan :-/

I have an Epson Perfection 4490, and I recently tried to use it to scan a negative from a roll of 120 format Fujicolor Pro 400H. I got a really weird result using Epson Scan on MacOS. Has anyone else seen anything like this before? The very far left and far right of the frame are correct, but there is a large band in the center that is un-reversed and there are several smaller bands inside it showing different exposure levels. What could cause this?

I don't know what's causing it but I bet if you could generate 12 or 15 of these you could get a gallery show!

Do you have something covering the calibration zone? That will drive the scanner software bonkers.

Looks like you scanned it in flatbed mode and not transparency mode so the light in the lid didn't go on. You need to specify color negative in the dialogue. Or maybe you left the platen that presses the prints down on the scanner. You need to take that out.

Yeah. You need to leave the first half inch or so open so the scanner can calibrate itself on each scan. Otherwise, you get weird stuff like this. The tale-tell sign is banding running in the direction of the scanner head's path.

Looks to me like you have "color transparency" selected.

it also looks like your transparancy adapter does not have the notch towards the hinge/back of the scanner
so the lid does not turn on/and or you have not removed the foamy cover the disengages the lid-light and/or
you do not have the lid plugged in and you are scanning film. is your firmware up to date in your scanner?

Hmmm ... I'm running macOS Mojave, so according to Epson the latest firmware is v3.07, which is from 2013 :-/

Try dumping the software along with preferences files and reinstall.
