I have a Gossen Profisix meter that needs to be repaired. It stopped working this morning. The malfunctioning started during a shoot. It's not the battery, I have checked that. When I meter the needle pushes itself to the outmost left side of the scale. Turning the dail does not seem to have any effect. If I press the green battery check button the meter tells me the new battery is good.

Is there place that still repairs these old light meters? Preferably in Europe.

Gossen themselves reject this models for repair by them.

Their argument is lack of spares.

Yes, moreover not all parts are special and basically a check or calibration would not need parts.
But... the problem already starts at the back cover-plate. Imagine they would not get it off without harming it. Then imagine the response of a client if getting the meter back without cover-plate. I guess that is why they are so restrictive.

Do you have access to the eBay auction site where you live? While some sellers are asking $200 US dollars, or more, others are selling the Gossen Profisix for $70-80 US. I'm guessing the cost of repair is going to be that much, or more.

I recently bought a similar model, the Gossen Luna-Lux (aka Lunalite) for $50 US, including shipping.

When searching an international site like eBay for Gossen light meters, be aware that US versions usually have a different model name, so try searching both names. The Profisix was sold as the Luna-Pro SBC in the US.

I don't bother with auctions, so I ignore any item which does not have a "Buy It Now" option. And if the item has a "Make Offer" button, it can sometimes be purchased for less than the asking price.

I've contacted Gossen to see if there is anything they can do. I do not have high hopes, but you never know. I do own another Gossen meter, the Lunasix 3, as well as a Seikonic 398 but to me they do not feel as intuitive as the Profisix. Rotating the dial to center an analog needle is quick and fool proof. Fingers crossed ....

I tend to say it is the only meter I can handle...
Strange enough that feature of "placing" luminances deliberately along the nulling-scale is not yielded by its digital read-out successor Mastersix, although it got similar center-zero display. What I only found out after buying it.

Got a very friendly email from Gossen stating that are unable to do repairs on this model. Lack of parts, as mentioned earlier.

I send an email to Quality Meter Repair in Hollywood. Let's wait .... fingers crossed

At the price of used samples a repair is questionable on economic base, aside that you might get back a meter calibrated to manufacturer standard.
A alternative way would be to hand it to some electronics nerd to have a look.

That is my third and last option as both Gossen as well as Quality Meter Repair are unable to repair due to lack of parts. I do happen to know two elderly, skilled electronics engineers who argreed to have a look. I am still keeping my fingers crossed ....

Reviving this old thread in the hope that someone can offer some help please...

I have a Gossen Profisix SBC meter (known as the Gossen Luna-Pro SBC in the USA) which now has the malfunction described by removedacct3 in the first post on this thread, where the battery check shows normal behavior, but pressing the big red measure button causes the pointer to move to the left end of the scale, and no amount of the rotation of the settings dial makes the pointer move away from the left end of the scale, which remains at the left end till the battery check green button is pressed, or the battery is disconnected.

The meter was working as expected previously, and suddenly on the next measurement failed as described.

Did you "removedacct3" ever get your meter to work properly, and if so what was the answer please?

Has anyone else any advice please?

Thanks...

A new meter that is still supported by the manufacturer. I don't think the Gossen can be repaired by anyone any more. I would not take chances on a used one, likely to fail at some point.

Thanks...

I like to fix and repair things (just last year I called time on our toaster which had lasted since 1979 - wedding present - which finally was beyond repair, replaced with a second hand Dualit which are still made and spares available) so I understand the requirement to get a new meter, and then be able to trust the accuracy of readings - as long as the meter works.

I am looking for a fix - if one is possible...

And I had found the referred thread, interesting thank you, but that is just the way in to the meter, not the fix for malfunction described. I have spent too many hours trawling various search strings looking for a fix, and I hoped the original poster (removedacct3) here might have an answer?

Thanks again for your various replies, appreciated...

Seems I might have to go shopping...

While these folks probably won’t do a repair, they seem a potential option to calibrate/verify/validate Gossen light meter accuracy. The price, though, might be exorbitant.

Type “Luna Pro” into the search box.

I don't think they will do the light meters...

I’d agree that it is unlikely. Perhaps they should update their web site, then.
