Gordon Parks

I've been a fan of Parks since around 1965, when I learned some things about flash from his 1947 book, "Flash Photography." Actually I sort of lost interest when he moved into motion pictures.

The Digital Journalist had a few articles about him, here, I think perhaps he had just passed away...

He had a pretty rough upbringing, if one sees being turned out onto the street during the winter in Minneapolis as rough. As I recall he got by with his meager musical ability by becoming essentially the "piano player in a whorehouse."

My wife and I often saw Parks and his wife regularly in balcony seats at Metropolitan Opera. We must have had the same subscription. After 35 years, wife and I dropped ours when productions became dominated by Eurotrash. By the way, he had a very dignified demeanor.
