I recently visited the Art Institvte of Chicago and the "invisible Man" and Gordon Parks exhibit.
There are many prints from Parks from the 40s-50s of Harlem, New York, USA.
The book store also has the book of prints and story.
YES! YES! I bought the book at the shop from the exhibit "Invisible Man" Gordon Parks & Ralph Ellison In Harlem. You might be able to pick it up online from the store or maybe Amazon.
It's 160 pages of stories, plate photos, and contact sheets. Surperb images, really. Very inspiring!
Yes...I had no idea that many of his photographs, where HIS Photographs.
I have only, ever, seen a few Vids/Interviews of him, but.....he seemed like he was a Cool/Decent Dude.
I have been waiting for years now for a Gordon Parks in depth retrospective book. Sadly I think his "crime" was being born with the wrong pigmentation because he was one of the best photographers of the last century. He led quite an interesting life too aside from the incredible images he took. I don't think he gets anywhere near the respect he is due.
