Hi guys I need your input and quickly. I have the stuff to mix up the gold toner that is on unblinking eye for VDB. I also have the berg gold toner, not the yellow one. I was wondering if the berg toner would work for toning VDB's since it is quicker to mix up?

Am not sure what the contents of Berg gold toner are, but if you can check the MDS sheets for their products it should give you a starting point.

Frankly i am not too found of their toners, and if you have the materials for the one listed there i would use that one.

Of course, run a test with the Berg and see how you like the results. THe toner is re-usable so your not at a loss.

berg toners

In my experience, Berg Toners have been more stains than toners. That is they stain the entire print equally and do little if anything to preserve the image. I have also found that the Berg Gold lasts only a few hours.

A gold/Thiocyanate toner is relativcely inexpensive, lasts well and gives a good color change.

I've used the berg gold toner many times in the past on regular silver gelatin. It lasts a long time (until exhausted gold wise) if stored properly. It is not a staining toner it is a regular gold toner formula giving nice blue tones if the print is left in for very long.

This is a little off topic, but has anyone used the gold toner that doesn't change the print color and is for print permanence? I saw this at photoformulary.com and wondered about it. Better than selenium?

Thanks,

Will

My experience indicates the paper type will effect the shift to color. With some papers, it toner increases the coldness .

I have used Les Mclean's version of extended gold and selenium toning and love the results. Sometimes the white borders of the paper get stained because of the length of time in the gold, but the print it self is fine.
