How many prints can I expect to tone with a 1l bottle of Tetenal or Fotospeed gold toner?

Before taking the plunge I would like to find out if gold toning is a habit I can afford!

Thanks,
Ian

Ian, Tetenal's toner supposedly tones 50 8x10 prints, but that depends on their density. I have no personal experience and I'm not willing to acquire any...

Density like Anon Ymous said and the level on toning on each print.
I doubt very much that you will get 50 8x10 prints, but with not too much shadow and only a light tone it should be possible.

However, you will know when it runs out, and before it does it will take a lot longer time to tone a print so it doesn't just happen.

OK, that's a bearable cost. Thought I remembered something along the lines of 10 prints per litre, but couldn't find the reference, so probably just faulty memory!

After seeing some of Tim Rudman's wonderfully cold, gold toned, lith prints I wanted to give it a try.

Lith takes to toning much better than a straight print, but I don't get many prints out of my gold toner. Expect maybe 10 and if you get more, be happy you did.

With normal prints in a liter for 8x10's I get about 6.

I get no more than 6 off 12x16s out of 1L of Tetenal (equivalent to 10 off 10x8s)

I like the effect but not sure about whether its good value for money

As far as I can tell the Fotospeed and Tetenal are one and the same.

I would recommend you try it for yourself but go easy - it gets very expensive very fast

Fotospeed quote 50-60 8x10 prints per litre. That is a bit optimistic in my experience but of course it depends how deeply you tone each print and how much silver is in the print to be toned.
IME the Tetenal and Fotospeed products are similar but I think not the same product

Capacity will be greater with RC prints than FB. It's also possible to swab the toner onto the print area with FB prints which can greatly reduces wastage, but it needs care and skill to get even toning.

I use the Bostick & Sullivan kit. After each print I add 5ml of gold solution.
I just toned 10 16x20 few days ago.
Way more economical than the Tetenal or Fotospeed.
