There is no way I know of using platinum or palladium to tone developing-out paper. The formulas that exist are for albumen, POP etc. I've experimented a bit with palladium and platinum salts, and had no success. Gold is another matter. In addition to the formula above, this works great:
Ammonium thiocyanate 50-100g
Gold chloride 0.1-1 g
1L water
Some of my friends in the New England Large Format Photography Collective have made some beautiful gelatin silver prints toned in potassium tetrachloroplatinate. It can certainly be done, and often to stunning effect.

What sort of effect does one get with such toners? Warm? Cool? Any details?
