Goerz Dagor info needed

I'm looking at a Goerz Dagor 8 1/4" f6.8 s/n 20000XX Lens made in Switzerland.

I been looking around google and haven't found much info.

If anyone has any info on this lens it would be appreciated.

I believe this is one of the last of the Dagors made by Schneider in the 1970s or early 80s, perhaps a Gold Dot Dagor. It should have a circle of coverage of around 300mm at f/22, enough for 5X7 with quite a bit of movement. Some of these last Dagors made by Scheider were multi-coated, and a multi-coated Dagor is one of the most contrasty lenses you will find.

This wold be an outstanding lens for landscape work with 4X5 and 5X7 cameras, especially if you value compact designs with small foot prints.

The Swiss Dagor's were made for Schneider by Kern of Switzerland. I have a 14" Kern / Schneider Dagor and it is one of those lenses you'd have to pry from my cold dead fingers. I'm guessing the 8 1/4 is just as good. Where I work we use CineTheodolites with 60 inch lenses that were made by Kern.

This lens is interesting from that stand point that I believe it was made in the early 70's but is brand new. It is perfect. Never used. Does anyone know if it would be single, multi-coated or none at all?

With the Dagor design and limited number of air/glass interfaces it really doesn't make much difference.

I know it was at least single coated. I had one for a while, and yes, it was sharp and snappy. The only knock is that the coverage was really a lot less than a classic Goerz version. I think they mechanically vignetted the lens in a way that limited the coverage. It would just barely cover my 7x17, while the same focal length G-claron will work all the way to the edges of 12x20. So if you plan on using it for 8x10 or so, it would be perfect, but it is not a great ULF choice because of the coverage.
