Would someone be able to tell me what the size of the glass tube is that is commonly used for Alternative coating? Also are the ends cut clean? Looking to make some custom sizes for myself and want to make sure I get the right glass rods.
I have used puddle pushers for pt/pd coating for a number of years and buy them from Bostick and Sullivan. The size would depend on the size of the negative. Usually somewhat larger than the negative so as to fully cover the negative space. If you want clean borders not showing the coating make a mask with rubylith or something that will block the uv light. You could also leave the coated borders and cover with an overmat if that is the presentation you are looking for. That way you can go either way.

The above is correct. I just want to add that some papers do not coat well with a puddle pusher, Buxton and Herschel come to mind. And some folks like to brush after rod coating.
I use a solid glass rod, instead of a hollow tube, for my alt process work. Being a solid piece of glass, it magnifies the "puddle" and allows me to see how well the solution is covering the paper.
Thank you all for the reply. It hink my question was not quite clear . I was wishing to know the actual diameter size of the glass rod? I am thinking 5mm?
The outside diameters of the rods I have are .475", while the inside diameters are .395". Translated into metric gives: 12mm for the outside and 10mm for the inside. The tube walls would then be 1mm. I hope this is what you were looking for.
