Cheap and good solution: boxes of B&W papers in 100 pack are great for holding photos inside. If you want one big album - best is to build one by yourself.
its not hard to make a photo album...
get long posts from someplace like gaylord
( or a similar library / archival supply supplier in the uk )
you can get cover stock from the same place
cover it with cloth or leather, or paper or whatever you want
get pages and posts or make your own die and cut your own pages
or use corners ... it is a simple and easy solution
or you can make things more elaborate if you want ...
Agreed. On the other hand, if done carefully, large and heavy can also be safer. That's why archives often store documents in large albums. It keeps them flat and protects them from light or physical damage.
(Provided the books are made from sturdy, archival quality material and stored in proper conditions.)
Size and weight would be a problem if you wanted to display the photos or show them to people on a frequent basis but, for storage and occasional viewing, this might not be a problem if you kept the albums to a manageable size. (e.g. If you divide the collection into several albums of reasonable size.)
