GF670 Hard Case - Experience?

Hi, all - does anyone have any experience with Fuji's hard case for the 670 folder?

You mean the soft case? It fits the camera very snugly. It is good for protecting it when you are not using it. It is not the most convenient thing to take the camera in and out of when you are shooting. I recommend it though, as well as the lens shade.

Have not heard of a hard case for the GF670. But I do own and use the soft leather cover.

The leather cover will at first be too small to fit the camera without stretching. Too snug to easily fit. I believe this is by design. Over time the cover will stretch and form itself very snuggly around the folded up camera. Sort of like brand new leather athletic shoes will form themselves around your feet.

Once this happens the cover becomes a very useful accessory. Still not the quickest thing to remove, but I wouldn't be without mine.

Because of the requirement to detach all lens accessories (filters, hoods, etc.) prior to closing it, the camera normally stays open continuously during a photo session. The leather cover mostly gets used at the end of the day when the camera goes back into the bag.

What kind of battery life are you getting out of your GF670 Ken? My first battery lasted not even a month! I'm hoping that it was a really old battery and not indicative of a problem. So far the second battery is holding up well.

I have a GF670W which has an on/off switch which you are, sadly, able to forget to turn off. I dont think the GF670 has a switch, instead using the folding mechanism to turn the camera on and off.

549 days...

Received the new camera on July 6, 2012 from B&H. Instantly replaced the included Panasonic battery with a brand new Duracell CR2 because I wanted to answer that very same question. The Panasonic became my backup. The new Duracell finally failed as I was watching the college BCS National Championship football game on January 6, 2014, eight days ago.

Over that time the camera received only light use. Lots of non-photographic things going on for me during that time period. But I did get out often enough to post at least a few from this camera to the gallery here.

Because I'm a bit warped, my personal favorite is (there was a url link here which no longer exists).

Sorry to hijack this thread, but one last question.....what were the "symptoms" of the dying battery? Was your viewfinder all wonky?

My battery lasted more than a year too. The key is to close it when you are not shooting. I think the numbers in the viewfinder will flash when the battery is low.

All of the illuminated red shutter speeds in the viewfinder will blink simultaneously. Can't miss it. I had forgotten what the low-battery signal was, but when they began flashing I knew that had to be it. It was...

The case on eBay is the one I was referring to at the beginning of the thread. It looks like this is a Japan-only product?

I might be interested, but not really at that price.

Again, because of the requirement to remove all lens accessories before folding and closing, the camera usually stays open with me for an entire photo session. Too much trouble to repeatedly remove/close/reopen/restore stuff between pictures.* So the hard cover wouldn't be much more useful to me than the soft cover I already have.

Fuji does supply that square lens hood that combines with 40.5mm filters so removing the hood removes both. But then you are left with an expensive hood/filter piece in your other hand that must itself be put away somewhere safe and clean.

I've chosen to leave the square hood at home. Instead I use 58mm filters and the 58mm round metal Kalt hood. Partly because this hood is less expensive to replace should I lose or trash it. Plus, the Kalt gives deeper, more effective shade.

But mostly it's because of my sense that folders should look classically round up front. Yeah, silly. But it's such a beautiful instrument to begin with, and square just... doesn't... look... right...

* I've wondered if this requirement might in fact just be a subtly designed way of reducing by an order of magnitude the wear and tear on the folding and locking mechanism by making it more likely to happen only once per roll of 6x7 frames instead of 10 times.
