Excuse the ignorance of us limeys, but what date is pinhole camera day???

25th April, which luckily for all is a Sunday this year. In Oz and NZ it's never a problem to remember because it is ANZAC Day - our war remembrance day - and is always a public holiday.

Thanks for reminding us all.
I'll take some pinholes and hope to post her the 25.

I'm looking forward to this year, I always forget, then see wonderful images online and think "Oh yeah, I keep meaning to build a pinhole...". I then forget again until about April 28th of the following year

This year I will be up in beautiful Noosa (Aus) for my brothers wedding. We'll be out at the dawn service at the local RSL on the 25th, so I'm hoping to get a nice image or two, even if it is just with a pinhole plate on an existing camera (is that even allowed around here?! )

If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Rayko Photography Center always has a big open house for World Pinhole Photography Day. They offer supplies and instruction for making pinhole photographs and pinhole cameras. There is also a juried gallery show of pinhole photographs.

I'll have to tape together a matchbox and some 35mm cannisters. It's been a while.

I'm planing a small(teeny-tiny) exhibition in our local photo club. I'm now finding how hard it is to copy the paper negatives on old Orwo sheet ortho film, then contact print that to get a negative again - keeping out the dust is absolutely impossible.

April 2007 a big exchange for World Pinhole Day at APUG by Art. Unfortunately a significant number of people who signed up did not follow through by sending out prints to the people they were teamed with. That got Whole Pinhole Day a bad name at APUG.

I have not taken a pinhole photograph since, but tomorrow I will go out and shoot a few pinhole photographs.

By definition they will. There is no print exchange to fail.

It was a great idea, that could have worked, but did not.

The Day is here and now. Just get out and shoot a few pinholes and beam them up on the World Pinhole Photography Day portal for the world to see. That will be quite a sufficient "print exchange" and the images will still be on display long after the day.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get the Zero Image primed with some Provia and off into the wild blue.

Don't forget there are a lot of pinhole activities at the Rayko Photography Center in San Francisco. Make a camera, take a pic, or have me take your picture at the Pinhole Polaroid Portrait Pavillion.

I made one today although I was a bit lazy and just stepped out my front door and put a 0.5mm pinhole lensboard in my Deardorff 8x10. Using a tape measure it was roughly a 180mm focal length. Film was HP5 exposed for (1 mississippi, 2 mississippi) about 2 seconds and developed in Thornton 2-bath developer. What I find most remarkable is how precise the composition is considering I simply pointed the camera roughly in what I thought the right direction should be. No previews, bubbles or spirit levels. Maybe I should try being "lucky" a bit more often!

p.s. just checked the Worldwide Pinhole website and found one I did back in 2004 also on April 25.

p.p.s 2010 version now loaded also:

Bad thunder storms here. Very dark and wet. If it does not clear up, I'll have to look at something inside. I don't really like still life images, at least not what I can come up with!

Got two rolls through the pinhole tourist this morning before the rain came back. One is in the middle of semi-stand development right now.
