I'm getting me a Canon T70 with a 50/1.8 lens.

Is this T70 any good in your opinion? Are there any strange things I have to check? I'll collect the camera next Friday.

I'm a Nikon user, so unfamiliar about Canon cameras. I bought a Canon AE-1 some time ago, but shot only one roll. I heard some great things about the T70 so I bought one (with lens) for $17. Can't go wrong for this kind of money, can I? And it will give me a chance to get more familiair with a "famous" Canon camera by using it. When is the last time you hat some great fun for just $17? And I like the looks (from the 80s) of this camera too.

I got two of them. A nice (compact. motorized) everyday SLR. The only disadvantage I see is the lacking DOF-preview feature.

I don't know of any strange things to look for.

Two disadvantages: the advance is incredibly noisy, and it's one of the ugliest SLRs ever made, or 80s cute. Otherwise the T70 is neat camera.

I find it ugly too. But it holds much nicer than I expected.

Those optics on the 50 1.8 are the same as the current AF model and are beyond razor sharp past 2.8

Be very careful with the battery cap. They break and are very hard to find. The AE-1 is a better camera IMO.

That lens is a real sleeper. They're cheap because they're so common, not because they aren't good!

I used nikon only in slr for long time. Then I got T90 with 50mm/1.8 - so I used it for half a year. Lens is of course excellent, sharp and nice. Canon is little different than nikon in usage, but one get used to it very easy. As you say - for 17$ you can not go wrong. But on the end I did sold my T90, and continue using F801s as my automatic camera.

The T70 was my first SLR, and I still love it! The 50mm/1.8 is a great lens too. Get it and enjoy!
