Hi Daniel, My name is Jim and I am experimenting with a dichromate free method of making gum Arabic prints that is suitable for carbon printing as well. The chemistry is non toxic and the photosensitiser is eosyn y and triethonalamine (tea). In the presence of visible light the eosyn and tea mixture generates photosensitivity in gelatin. The tea and eosyn are both non toxic and eosin y and tea have been proposed as chemicals which could be used to repair the human retina in certain conditions..... I have made some images and they are muddy and lack contrast so far but I have just begun to experiment and have a large learning curve to climb. If you want to read technical papers about this chemistry google eosyn photosensitiser gelatin and you will find some really technical biomedical papers that will give you the details of the process. I am exploring this chemistry because it is not possible for me to handle toxic chemicals in my small apartment safely, and I refuse to use dichromates in my kitchen. For people who dump stuff down the drain, if you have a septic tank, dumping dichromates down the drain contaminates your property and turns it into a toxic waste time bomb and new cancer center!
Best Regards
Jim
