Hey Everyone. I signed up to here last night.

Currently I am in the process of getting back into photography after almost a good 20 years or so. Putting together a small darkroom in my place. The “focus” will be Fine Art Black and White Photography.

Not long ago I had a spark that ignited me to return to where I had left off. The gap in the long and winding road has been one big journey and adventure with struggles along the way and dealing with things that I needed to accept, at the time. I really miss being in that place where I can really call home. Soon I will be back to doing black and white and down the road will do color.

When I was four I had an interest in photography. I was taking pictures with my mother’s old 126 camera with flash cubes. After graduating high school in 1992 I went to a community college where I bought my first SLR: Pentax K1000, then started doing black and white film developing and printing. A year later I began working with color negatives and prints, C-41/EP2/RA4, and chromes through E6 and Cibachrome/Ilfochrome. I am also a 1997 graduate of the Hallmark Institute of Photography School.

What is left of my past work was packed away in storage. A lot of it was handed down to past clients and friends. For me this is really starting all over again with a clean slate. Can’t wait to see where this journey takes me.

Welcome to APUG Photrio!!

Welcome! Nothing more reliable than film! Tried to use wife’s Nikon dSLR. Turned on, got message that exposure function inoperative, must take to service center. Therefore, nothing works. Best to use computer in one’s head.

B/W is beautiful.
Some of the threads on APUG are especially informative and interesting. Also, the variety of directions taken with photography. I start my day reading new posts.

Welcome to APUG. I'm sure you will have fun and emotional reward using film. There is still plenty of film equipment for sale at reasonable cost, but he aware that prices are rising. Cheers!

hi what about bob,

Welcome to APUG.

Thanks for the welcome, Everyone

At first digital gave the feeling of immediate satisfaction and as time went by it made me feel like I was slacking off. Maybe professionally there would be an exception. If it works for others then that is great but for me there is something missing with digital that only analog photography can provide.

Getting around can be hard since I don’t have wheels so I either bus, walk it or rely on friends for getting around. Would like to get to other places and do some filming.

This has been my go-to site for information, for a little while now. Looking forward to being a part of this forum.

Welcome! I'm glad you found your way home.

I disappeared from photography for about 7 years and made my way back about three years ago. Best move I'd made in a long time!

Welcome to Photrio from Tucson via Springfield, MA. There's a great group of New England people here Photrio, take sometime to get to know them.

Welcome to Photrio (aka to we originals as APUG).

We're an eclectic bunch with a truckload of experience, knowledge and humour - hope you find us entertaining, informative and above all, helpful in whatever area you need help.

Welcome.after being away almost 40 years myself i have come back.I believe digital does have a place but there is no feeling like an slr in your hand.you have to think a lot more to take a picture.as I am only a hack i do really love it.if I get only 1 good picture out of a roll worthy of hanging on my wall i consider myself lucky.it's a great journey and have fun.welcome back.

Welcome back. You'll quickly see that many old films (like HIE!!!) are no longer with us... thankfully, there still are many nice emulsions out there to play around with.

That is the best way to "start-over". If I were starting over with a "clean slate", I would start over with Black & White and never change. Welcome back to "Photography"!.......Welcome Back........Regards!

@ozphoto: Tons of great information. I have come across some of the humorous ones at that

@jvo: Thanks. Glad to be back on the right path.

@canongary: I'm with you on that one, Gary. I like taking everything in and enjoying the time that I am spending, where ever I may be. Very calming. Welcome back to you after 40 years. Let the fun begin!

@M.A.Longmore: Thanks

@stephen: Can't wait to start sharing. Almost set with the darkroom stuff. There have been some delays with delivery of certain things.

@Andrew: I have shot HIE a few times, back in the early 90s. I do remember having some fumbling with trying to load it onto a reel. It was thinner than the other films. There was also an Ektachrome version of IR but I never got to try it.

@Selena Jain: Black and white also put me in a different mood and is a good escape toward being able to concentrate better and examine how to improve on visualizing what it is that I am going after. Digital has its place but it just doesn't do it for me. Analog makes you take slower strides. Keeps your mind in it and makes photography much more satisfying.

@Arklatexian: Nothing beats good old basics.

Hello and welcome...I started out with a Pentax too back in the early 80s; the passion for photography never quite leaves you and sometimes all it takes is one thing to bring it back.

Thanks Black Dog

It never leaves, just waits for you to return to it. I'm glad it did. That first time holding an SLR is really something else. Like Gary said: "There's no feeling like it."

@Sirius Glass: Thanks for the welcome

@guangong : Seems like anything with computers in it is prone to cause hiccups. Love black and white.

@Kodachromeguy : One of the items being that of film, that has rose in price. I'm just happy that it is still around.

@jnantz : Hello to another New Englander! If anyone is ever up around the Northampton area let me know.

@mshchem : It is refreshing getting back to photography.

@BradS : Thanks for the welcome.

For me, the best part about film this time round is having the net. When film was king, the mags only talked about the latest cameras. Anything with a few years on it got ignored. Any artistic value that 'lesser' cameras may have had wasn't mentioned. I used to have a Zenit with Helios 44-2. I didn't know about it's ability to produce swirly bokeh until a few years ago.
