Just for curiosities sake, how mamy US Georgia photographers do we have in Apug? I've met a few but they seem particularly scarce. Make a note of what city/area you are in. Those interested in get togethers, mini workshops for beginners, social meets should speak up.
I know some of us lead pretty busy lives but it's nice to know you are there even if your situations and choices keep you from meeting up with any of the others in the area. If you want to be acknowledged but prefer your privacy say so, most of us know where you're coming from.
I'm in the East Cobb/Roswell burbs north of Atlanta myself. I welcome any Apug visitors who care to drop by.

Hey Gary, I live in the Flowery Branch area myself and work in Alpharetta. Theres great stuff to shoot in Roswell, I'd be game to do a photo stroll one day. There are very few analog photogs in GA to begin with and even less up north seems like. Glad to meet a fellow APUG'er.

You work pretty close by, my wife works in Alpharetta too just 15-20 minutes from home. It would be easy to meet up after work sometime unless you have family that needs your attention as soon as you get away.

I'm from Albany, there are a couple of us here that shoot 35mm, medium format, and 4x5. I also shoot APS & 5x7, and the other guy also shoots minox and half frame.

Gary, do you ever shoot the oak canopies on New Hope Road?

I'm in Valdosta/Hahira. Been here almost five years. I'm starting to like it, but i'm still in a photographic funk.

I like the sun, it's bright and hot enough for alt. printing in the sun year round.

I'm nervous of meeting people and group things but think it would be fun. Logistically speaking, meeting anywhere would be tough for me unfortunately. When I worked at a camera store I met one man who shot 4x5 (beautiful wisner camera) and he was the only one..
When I first came to this town from the Providence RI/New Bedford MA area, I found the one photo store and asked if they had 4x5 film.
They said no. I then asked for 120. They said no. Then they hired me.

Well, you're a couple hours from both Tallahassee and Albany. Watch for folks close by and trade notes to see whats good to shoot.

Gary I actually misdirected my question to you concerning the canopy oaks, it should have been directed at Mitch as he is in the Thomasville area. However, as you are a Georgian, you might want to make it a day trip. New Hope road is an unimproved(dirt, red clay, sand) road south of Thomasville. Taking US 19 south out of Thomasville, you travel some 12 or 15 miles or so and look for the New Hope Road sign. Exit US 19 to the right. The road takes you to Metcaff eventually. Several old abandoned buildings and a nice church there. The oaks form a canopy over 2 or 3 miles of the road. The oaks are moss draped and scarred.

I'm just south of Savannah, I've been here for nearly 24 years and I'm just starting to feel like a local.

Alpharetta Here

I'm very new to film. -4 days new to be exact. I just bought my first film cameras, 3 Pentax 67 bodies on eBay. They should arrive on Friday.

Looking forward to exploring photography with film. I've been using digital for a few years now.

I'm going to Noccalula Falls this weekend for the Rod Run and to photograph the waterfall and hiking trails if anyone is interested. I'll be heading there on Saturday and staying until Sunday, but anyone interested could just drive back Sat night if they don't want to stay.

'njoy,
Mark

Hi Gary, I'm in Athens and have been away from my photography for most of last year. Now I'm back in the game and have set-up my darkroom in my hall bath using an Omega D6 for 4x5 and medium format. I'm starting to concentrate on portraits and reducing my landscape work.

Hey Paul, I am just down the road in Monroe. I have an enlarger, and am printing some of my own stuff. My room is not completely dark so I have to wit until it is really dark out side before I can print. I am shooting and RB67 for my MF and have several 35mm bodies including 2 rangefinders. I also have a folding MF rangefinder on the way. I have been to Gary's house and he showed me how to process C-41 color film. So I will probably try my hand at that. I also have just bought a scanner.
Let me know if you would like to try and meet somewhere. Maybe we could get some others to join if we meet.

It seems we can get the best responses by setting up a meet for a Sunday. Post some of your portrait work Paul, I'd love to see it.

Hey strad, your darkroom sounds a little like mine, although I can get mine just dark enough (did a fog test for my safelight and my paper shows no fog for my typical processing). Gary, my portraits are not yet ready for prime time.

Sharing is a good way to evaluate. Sometimes you get too close to your work to see what needs to be done. Most of my portraits are digital so I can't share them here.
