Gelatin Questions

IDK, I've used many methods and they all come out the same in the end if you give it the proper heat and time. I use 20 - 40 C for up to 1 hur and never make it up at greater than 20%. At EK we made 22.5% commonly for lab use or 12%.

I always found these values to be difficult to work with.

Thank you, PE. For my next batch of glop, I'm going to try to keep the gelatin at 50C longer while stirring, before adding ingredients. I'm going to change the pair of underwear to a finer weave that I use to filter... The old cotton ones are getting worn out.

Here it is July, 7 months after this thread started and I thought I'd add something for any possible future readers.

I've been doing exactly the same kind of measuring and mixing gelatin this summer and there is not the least amount of static trouble I had last winter. So, at least here where I live, the problem is seasonal and probably related to the dry air from our furnace in the winter months. Also, as suggested in this thread, a drop of IPA is very helpful getting very tiny bubbles when the gelatin is settling.

You're right about the drop of ISA. I now only use 10ml per litre of glop. Used to be 50ml. Since I stuck a portable AC in my fun room I've been able to make canon prints but it's a constant battle keeping both the room cool and RH down! Winter months are a joy!
