gel mounting negative for drum scan

I'm looking for any information about maintaining the archival qualities or black and white (8x10 HP5) negatives once they've been gel mounted for drum scanning.

I have no problems with the mechanical aspects of gel mounting and the subsequent cleaning; I am however concerned about whether the gel and/or the cleaner will affect film and image stability. Is a re-wash in order?

Tetenal used to make a film cleaning aerosol that I think is still available. Also if you can find a Graphic Arts supplier they might stock a product called "Film Clean", I'm not sure what label that would be sold under where you are. Alternatively try and buy some Isopropyl Alcohol. Here in the UK you can buy this from a Pharmacy, or what you might call a drugstore! I've worked as a scanner operator in the pre press industry and have used all these items with no harm done to any film. There is also no need to re-wash. One other suggestion, there is a specific drum cleaning liquid that removes the gel and oil from the drum, it's not the same as film clean, try asking the Graphic Arts supplier, if you can find one that is. I've just re read your post, and I must apollogise for offering information about cleaning, a process that you are happy with. It was early in the morning! In answer to your question, there is no need to re wash after scanning and cleaning.
