Gas Problems

I haven't bought a new camera or lens for almost a year, and I can feel the Gas building. Just now I was looking at the cameraleather.com site for ideas on what camera to buy next. That's sad. Very, very sad. Sort of like buying a house because you have some remodeling ideas you want to try out.

Apart from that, my next purchase will likely be an EOS 1V to replace a 1N. Or maybe a Contax RTS II + winder. Perhaps a Contax ST + battery pack. Or maybe an EF 200mm f/2.8. But money's been very tight for the last few years. I find myself perusing the KEH catalog during down-times in the reading room, looking for inspiration.

My latest 'thing' seems to be trying different make lenses on EOS bodies. The only ones in my arsenal that fit are the Contax C/Y mount and Mamiya M645 mount. Got any other ideas?

I need a cheaper hobby....

Just to add fuel to your GAS . . . how about OM lenses and even the OM Magnifier on a Canon 1VHS?

How about 1 of these ? Once you use they eye control focus point (ie:7e) you might never want anything else. My GAS excuse for an EOS 3...

That looks sweet! GAS is creping up on me again. how is the focusing with that, do you use a special screen? I tried using legacy lenses on my canon dslr and and for the life of me I can't get the right focus unless I use live view.

Yup, the 1V is a pretty awesome machine, especially since you can get them for around $500 now. If I shot Canon, I don't see really any reason I wouldn't have one of these.

BTW, since renting one of these with the 50L for the weekend, i'm starting to get some of that gas too!

The best cure for G.A.S that I know is the realization that when you own the World's best, biggest, most hi tech and expensive equipment and your work is still crap you have nowhere to go, or have anything to blame.

DO NOT (I repeat), DO NOT substitute for photography either boats or airplanes. The last time I filled both tanks, 100/LL avgas was $6.00 per gallon.

Yep. See my reply in another thread to a pilot friend asking about G.A.S. - online we have an acronym, AMU, Aviation Monetary Unit. One AMU = $1000.

It's amazing how downright cheap photography and all my other hobbies seem now after getting into flying, and I don't even own a plane, just rent (which can cost more per hour depending on how much you fly, but at least has no potential five figure maintenance surprises.)

The best cure for G.A.S that I know is to give into it!

Someone has to stimulate the economy and keep the prices of used equipment from falling more. Get in there and do your part!

I make rules and excuses to keep myself from buying things I don't need. Doesn't the 1V have plastic spools? Contax SLRs are nice, but good luck getting one repaired if it breaks. And so on Or you can just walk away - that's kept me from buying lots of things I didn't need

If anyone decides they just need to relax and go with the flow, I can fix them up with an Olympus right angle macro finder and 50mm lens so their camera will look just like the one posted earlier. I'll even throw in a roll of Tums. Just trying to help . . . Bill Barber

Thankfully, my most recent attack was solved by realizing I'm just not ready for the complications of large format. My GAS is now being redirected back where it should have been - filters for the mamiya tlr, CLA for the Zeiss, and a spare Minolta X-?? body. Then there's that pinhole lens project for the ME Super with the broken meter. Oh, and some lighting.

It seems that my GAS is more limited by time than money. I just don't have time to go looking for all this stuff, let alone use it.

Hmmmmm.... that 28-85 mm, EX, $109 looks nice. Tomalophicon, why did you have to mention KEH?
