Today weather is bad. So I made some pinhole cameras. My cameras are made of waste products of civilization, e.g. non-returnable packaging: cans, cartons, soda tumblers and, of course, an original packaging for a digital camera...

As you can see, this project is about the environment. I will photograph landfills, garbage trucks, waste incinerators. Garbage to garbage, waste to waste...

But I don't want to be the only one. Waste products of civilization are a global problem, and I am looking for kindred spirits for a global event.

Let me know what you think about it. It's not "my" project, it's ours.

Sounds like fun. I keep meaning to have a go at pinhole... so many projects, so little time...

Perhaps they should take a couple of your models along on the Plastiki.

I must admit I don't understand, I'm not a native english speaker.

For the 'total art experience' it should be done with discarded film, paper and chemicals.

Nice addon idea, all film should be outdated

BTW, I am quite sure I already have an opportunity for an exhibition, some people outside this forum like the project.

I probably could have been a bit more specific. The "Plastiki" is a sailing catamaran built entirely from recycled materials (the hull is empty plastic, soft drink bottles filled with CO2). Their intent is to sail parts of the Pacific to draw attention to large areas of trash, some 2X the size of Texas!!) out there. I thought a perfect match would be some of your pinhole cams, but I expect they would be difficult to use on a pitching sailboat.

Have a look at Miroslav Tichy's cameras for inspiration. Not pinhole, but you'll see what I mean.

do i all!!!!!!!!!!! damn it!

hello

If you are doing it, do it all! you can build a camera obscura and do some pinhole or even use a ruined retroprojector, use it´s lens (around 300mm) add a diafragm to improve quality and luminosity, to the fotosensitive support you can do a calotipe or even better a wet collodion, then print it on cianotype, albumine, gum or something similar then you should get really fullfilled as a photographic image producer! strangely if you do it more or less wright you´ll get some good quality pictures, or not...

Great!!! Found it:

Well, we might use a garbage camera with a real lensset to a fixed focus.

Hah, fun idea! You could then toss your pinhole camera into a pile of trash (or on the street somewhere) and let it photograph its surroundings for a suitable length of time before retrieving it for processing. Maybe a photograph of the camera taking its photo to accompany the image from the camera itself.

The 'Plastiki' is a modern take on Thor Heyerdahl's 'Kon-Tiki' . If memory serves, he built a papyrus craft, and sailed the Atlantic, to prove that ancients had the capability to explore the Americas(or something like that).

Close. The Kon-Tiki was to prove the Polynesians could make the journeys from South America to the Polynesian Islands....

Thank you-- I probably shouldda looked that up. I vaguely remember reading about it ages ago, great adventure.
