Yeah, but what is FaceBook or MySpace but a place where people post pictures and gab about them? Flicker? PhotoBucket? MobileMe?
It's all the same thing!
Setting up the slide projector and showing pictures is the EXACT same thing, in terms of social constructs. It's just a different technology.
But, the funny thing is, when you tweak the presentation a little bit (e.g. - Put a graphic banner across the top of the screen.) your presentation might be virtually indistinguishable from a web page. (Theoretically speaking, of course.)
Put together a bunch of slides that might generate interesting conversation to a group of people. Maybe let them put in a few of their own slides.
Freely pour some wine, beer, mixed drinks, coffee and/or soda. Serve some tasty snacks.
Show some slides. Talk about them. Have a party!
Nowadays, we use computers and websites. In the old days, we used to go over to each others' houses to do the same thing.
What people call "social networking," these days, we used to simply call "socializing" in the "old days."
My point is that showing slides does not need to be a dull, boring affair.
