actually it was your Medium and Large Format book that got me interested in whole plate size. You talk of it being such a fine and well proportioned format. To begin with I cut some paper to 6.5x8.5 inches and stuck it on my wall and compared it with my 5x7 and 8x10 contact prints. It is to my eyes a finer format size.
Can't say I agree wth you, Roger. I've compared an Ebony side-by-side with a Gandolfi, and the former is far more 'steady'. Of course, the Gandolfi could have been a poor example.Lucky Anton!
I'd rather have the Gandolfi than an Ebony anyway. You know Gandolfi can also supply a 5x7/13x18 back for it...
Have fun with it. I'm sure you will.
Cheers,
Roger
I think it must have been. I've never put the two side by side, but I've handled quite a few Gandolfis and a few Ebonies. I remember the Ebonies as heavier, and more complicated, but I'd not hesitate to use a Gandolfi for any kind of photography, and it strikes me as a lot more elegant.Of course, the Gandolfi could have been a poor example.

PS I live in Peckham!
Would be interested to hear the exact weight if you ever put it on a scale....Lastly, it is not heavy at all...
Dear Anton,Sal
it weighs 3.2 kgs.
Feels a lot lighter than my Kodak 2D 8x10! Fits nicely in my rucksack too.
Anton
