What a good idea Jeff, it wouldn't be too difficult to make one of with plastic cold water plumbing tubing that would be much lighter and just as rigid, I have some 1" diam. stuff in my basement and a tube of the welding compound to stick it together with, I think I'll try this weekend.

I have a mini tripod that I use this way - just extend one leg and place it mid tummy, and keep the other two legs short and they sit on my sternum.

The Leitz table top tripod could also be used as a chest pod, granted it cost more than $2.00
