G-Claron Lenses

I finally got a chance to get out and do some photographing today with my recently purchased G-Claron Lenses.

Is it just me or does the image on the ground glass actually look "Sharper" and more clear than it does with other lenses?

I have 3 of them and they do rock, indeed! My barrel mount Apo-Nikkor process lenses appear to be in the same class.

I've got a 150mm, 210mm and 305mm G-Claron's, I am sold on the series. Tack sharp, contrasty, and much better lenses than I am a photographer

I've got a 305 G-Claron and it makes some super sharp negatives. Every time I put a new neg on the lightbox I'm amazed all over again. But... I've got two other 12" lenses (Kodak Comm Ektar, Rod APO Sironar) that seem to produce the prints that I like best. I ain't giving up on the G-Claron especially since it's the only lens I got for 7x17. Maybe there's more ingredients in the soup than just sharpitude.

G-Clarons are sharp lenses as the 99% of modern lenses.
Their plus is the coverage around 80 degrees that make them more usefull than the Plasmat lenses (Apo Symmar, Sironar). These have a little less of coverage and a huge weight so not so good for backpack or to carry in the fields.
They are not the ancestors of Super-Symmar because they were designed for repro machine.
Enjoy the G-Clarons a true sleepers and great glass.

I was planning on having 210, 240, 270 and 305 lenses plus a single shutter for them all..... But this 305 has me stumped....

You have an older 305 G-Claron...I have the same one. Its still a G-Claron though...not a Repro-Claron. It will fit a #2 Copal, which is rather hard to find I must say. It took me some time to be able to find a #2 shutter on e-bay, but I finally did. Mine is fitted into a #2 Compur, which is a bit easier to find then the Copal one. ..and much less expensive.

Doesn't sound right to me either Frank. Was looking at the Schneider data page yesterday and they show the 210-305's as #1's and the 355 as #3.

I have 150mm and 210mm G-Claron lenses out of some sort of process camera. I would like to have them put in shutters. Is it as simple as getting the proper size shutter and screwing them in? Or do I need to have someone who knows what they are doing mount them? And who would that person be?

My 150mm G-Claron is in a Copal 0 shutter and my 210mm is in a Copal 1, as is my 240mm G-Claron.

Not a repro...... a plain old G-Claron. I do not have a COpal 3 SHutter to test the theory, could somone please measure a shutter for me and tell me the correct (Approx) size of the threads on the front group so I can measure and compare......

Yes, I realize this. ( And it is why I bought the lens sight unseen... then this little bug-a-boo.....) the 240 and 270 are also Copal 1.

It fits a Copal/Compur 2 shutter. It should have a 45 mm thread, so check to be sure. Also check on e-bay for some shutters. They usually don't advertise it being #2, so you will have to ask the seller to measure the opening and make sure its 45mm.

Some other Schneider lenses of the same vintage that can share a shutter with your 305 are 240/420 convertible symmar in Compur 2, 165 6.8 Angulon in Compur 2, and the pricey 150 Xenotar f2.8 which I can sell you if you have some $ to burn.

It fits a Copal/Compur 2 shutter. It should have a 45 mm thread, so check to be sure.

The front cell group has a thread diameter of around 1 3/4 inches ( using a 24 inch rule!). That is around 43mm, and figuring my measurement accuracy, I could believe a real 45mm diameter. Copal 2 it is!
