Hi all,
We are testing Skimlinks at the moment. This is an affiliate program that can benefit the site simply by tagging Amazon, eBay, and similar links as coming from Photrio.
Normally, when a member clicks an outgoing Amazon or eBay link (and potentially other shops), they go straight to the link. What Skimlinks does is ensure that Amazon, eBay, and similar retailers know the potential buyer came from Photrio.com. If the buyer purchases, then Photrio gets a percentage of the sale.
Testing for visitors over three days resulted in 80 clicks and $700 in purchases, equaling around $17 for the site.
I've rolled it out site-wide, and for the most part, members should not notice anything. If you have security tools running, you may get a "Skimlinks" notice on these clicks (depending on your security tools you can usually set to ignore the alert for future clicks). I'm posting this announcement so you are aware that this has been put in place by us and not some nefarious activity or hack.
If this ends up causing issues with the site, we'll disable it, but I think it is worth a try.
Thanks! Sean
