Most ad blocking browser plugins allow you to disable the block on certain sites. It would be appreciated if you could take a moment and disable it for APUG (one example screenshot below shows me disabling it for apug.org):
We serve relevant and non-invasive ads. Disabling the ad block supports APUG and the companies involved with our craft. I know many of you have disabled it years ago so thanks.
I certainly don't mind the ads on APUG. In fact, I don't really mind ads on sites that I benefit from. But I do object to all the tracking that goes on with advertising (though it seems I'm trying to turn back the hands of time).
My blocking s/w found 2 trackers on this page: Ad Peeps and Viglink. I don't know how invasive those trackers are (note I said invasive, not malicious).
I use NoScript and have APUG on the allowed list. But, 1 out of 5 ad scripts is blocked nonetheless, as being possibly harmful. In fact, a short line is now at the bottom of the APUG screen warning me.
pretty invasive actually - viglink added a link into my profile without asking me about whether I wanted it added. I only discovered this by accident when another member PM'd me about the content of the link.
I've allowed ads on apug - if it helps support the site then fair enough. I see an option next to the ads to 'Click here to remove this ad' though so not sure why that is? Is that not doing the same thing?

Adpeeps is our ad serving software, and Viglink is a well known affiliate program we use. For example if someone posts a link on APUG to an ebay ad, Viglink will track that and if a sale is made from the ebay link on APUG then we can get a kickback. It has been enough to keep it enabled and seems fairly low key. One thing you will never see on APUG are these annoying "More From Around The Web" ads. Those are terrible and I can't believe well known websites have these annoying 'click-bait' ads all over their pages.
