I don't want to criticise Roberto's work but I would like to offer some suggestions:

In Italian is good practice not to make the plural of foreign words: sport alternativi, ha messo a segno due scoop.
So I would say Blog not Blogs, and Portfolio not Portfolios.

I would change Chat Room into "Chat" as this is common in internet parlance, or even better into "Conversazione" if not too long. Or even "Parla", or "Chiacchiere".

Rispondi "quotando" is an awful barbarism that, it alone, would discourage me from using the Italian interface. Rispondi citando.
Instead of "messaggio", which is more commonly used for one-to-one communications, I would say "testo", so Modifica testo.
"Quick Rispondi" should become "Risposta rapida" or anything else provided it is Italian, and in fact, when I want to send this post, I see "Invia risposta rapida" which is fine.
"Articles" should be "Articoli".
Links: I would not hesitate in using "Collegamenti". Otherwise, Link, without s.
"Classifieds" = "Annunci".
Gallery = Galleria
Videos = Filmati or, at least, Video without s.
Support Us! I would suggest Sostienici! or Donazioni.

Forum = Conferenze, or Discussioni, Sottoscrizione alle discussioni is a bit too literal, we say "Iscrizione" alle discussioni, but in this case is a list of subscribed threads, so "Temi partecipati" I would say.

My threads: I miei temi.
Subscribed threads = Temi partecipati.
New thread = Nuovo tema.

My posts = I miei testi (or Miei testi)

"Spy" I would suggest "Diretta".

That is actually a better word than the English version for what that functionality does! Maybe we should replace "Spy" with something like "Live Updates" in the English forums as well...

I will have a look but some of the hard coded English text I can't change yet. Roberto only translated the actual forum titles and descriptions. The mass of system text translation was done by Italian vBulletin owners. It is good to have the suggestions thanks.

That is actually a minor difference with how we here in the Netherlands tread foreign words, in Dutch, we do often use the plurals... although the non-plural versions would be entirely acceptable here as well.

Sean,

Nice going on the expanded language support. When's the español coming?
Also, I've noticed bits of text showing up in French, I think, on some pages. Instead of "settings" I get Mon compte and there were a couple others that I can't recall right now. This is on two different computers. So unless this is a sneaky way of making me multi-lingual, you might have a glitch somewhere.

Looking at some of the Dutch translations as well, I don't think the vBulletin owners are doing a very good job with their foreign language translations... Somehow, that doesn't surprise me

Hi Raul,

So you are on the English language but saw a few french words? Are you able to tell me exactly where or send a screenshot to me at apug.org@gmail.com Thanks!

I have seen the "Mon compte" replacing the "Settings" option in the upper right corner of the APUG window next to ones signature image, as well. But I couldn't reproduce it in a reliable consistent way, so can't give instructions as to how to test for the bug. It did happen more than once though, while switching languages and clicking on menu options. Still, no consistency or clear clue as to the source of the problem.

I haven't been able to reproduce it. I suppose it is some caching from flicking between languages maybe? Did you click into the FR forum previous to seeing the glitch? Thanks

Sean,

Nice going on the expanded language support. When's the español coming?

This is possible, it just needs someone to provide us with a list of translated forums. Usually this is a more streamlined list since the foreign language forums are lower activity. Basically I am approached by someone that is keen to setup a subset of APUG forums in their language and volunteer to moderate -they provide a translation of forum categories & descriptions needed. I then create the forums and install a system language pack as well.

Yes I did, and I was thinking along similar lines. Strangely though, I can't reproduce it either, it is not consistent. Most of the time though, I see "Settings", even with FR as language!, and not Mon Compte, while the option beneath it "Log out" is properly displayed in French "Se déconnecter"...

Sean,

I have now been able to reproduce it:

- Switch to FR language
- Switch to "Groups", you will now see the "Mon Compte" replacing "Settings" in the menu. If you switch to any other option after this, you will properly see "Settings" again.

However:
If you stay in "Groups" and switch to EN language (or any other), you will still see "Mon Compte" instead of "Settings" (or the other language equivalent that actually should be displayed, but never is...)

The German forum needs some work , too.

Best thing is to compile a list of something in it's current text and then what it should be. I'm pretty much flying blind so need as much detail as possible to make adjustments to the various languages.

My photography related vocabulary in English is bad, it is non-existent in Spanish. So I'm mostly useless to you there.

On the bug front:
I consistently get Mon compte instead of settings in the upper right hand corner as Marco indicated but only in the following areas of the site:

The GROUPS tab
New Posts
Todays Posts
Subscribed Threads
My Threads
My Posts
Calendar
Member List
General Settings
My APUG
Private Messages
Blog Settings

I haven't clicked into the FR forum. Also the attachment in one of my posts is labeled as Fichiers attaché

Hope this helps

Strangely, one exception to the above "Mon compte" staying in view when viewing "Groups" and switching languages, is German. In German it is replaced with "Kontrollzentrum" when in Groups. However, it is not persistent like the Mon Compte. When you switch to EN, it is properly replaced by "Settings" again.

I think I fixed the "settings" text, looking at Fichiers attaché

Yes my fichiers are plain old files again. In the attachment box, next to the pdf icon it says téléchargements which according to Wordreference.com means download. It's next to the file size. My French vocabulary has grown tremendously today. Thanks.

The French language pack has messed up a few parts of the default language. I have changed that one and there are likely to be a couple more that show up. Thanks

I preferred the flags. Only the UK one for the English language. US citizens have to understand they speak somebody else's language

If this was Facebook I would have clicked 'Like' !!!
