Finally getting with the times on emoji support. It brings our emojis inline with other messaging apps you are used to.

So in our editor, when you click the smilie you'll see expanded options. Scroll down the list for full emojis:

I am thinking about capping the number allowed per post to 3, as to avoid too much visual clutter. I am working on getting the cap in place today.

Thanks,
Sean

At the risk of sounding like a curmudgeon - I much prefer the old, much more limited list.
Particularly the "whistling" emoji.

If you do a search in the emoji box for whistle, it seems to still find it :whistling:

It tends to remember your most used ones at the top, which somewhat allows you to tailor a custom group of emojis

There is also the option of the old smiley set being at the top of the box, and the new emoji set is underneath that, but I thought it best to just default to the new set instead of having two different sets. What do you smilie users think?

I could be wrong, but I think that whistling emoji is from the old library, because I don't see it anywhere in the new one, and it doesn't seem to be the same style of graphic as seen in the new library.

Yeah it's picking up on the old ones, which are hidden from the drop down box, but seem to be searchable

And no automated library-update to the newest trends in the emoji-world?
Will Photrio members then again be outed of being from yesterday?

I think we'll be good for a while, at least 3-5yrs. The forum code base and server softwares getting updated was the main thing.

ok, think I got the set and sizing ok, not too big, not too small, not too fluorescent coloured. It looks like older versions of chrome they seem a bit blurry but this is a global issue and corrected in the latest chrome version.

To mark me as one of the curmudgeonly old farts my observation on this new set of emojis is that most seem to be duplicates of each other or to be more accurate very slight variations that seem largely pointless. I assume and no doubt wrongly assume as I will find out in the next few pages of replies, is that an emoiji serves the purpose of conveying a broad emotion. Basically a smile is all that is needed to convey that emotion and not, say 8 variations. Each separate one is only "new" in the sense that we have a "new" film being made every other week 🙂

A devil emoji would be a nice addition.

Yeah they get a bit carried away with it.. for example: 😕🙁☹️ really? I don't see the point in some of them, but I can't really edit the list, it's a global standard sort of thing. However, once you use a few, it remembers them and keeps them at the top of your list under "Recently used":

Yes Sean I never imagined you could edit the list. It's just that like Matt I do wonder whether this increased list gives us members anything extra. On the other hand if a bigger list costs Photrio nothing then we stick-in-the-muds have lost nothing and those preferring more emojis have gained so that's a win/win I suppose

testing a gboard on android devil 👹
there might be ways to add various ones, but not a huge priority at the moment.

I do not mind if it is on the end of the list, as long as it is on the list.
