Hi All,

I'm trying out a CDN (Content Delivery Network). This is a paid hosted solution so should be quite reliable. What this does is it allows our static images and scripts to be hosted around the world. So instead of someone in the UK pulling content from our server in the USA, that content is hosted in the UK and gets to you faster. The site should be quite fast because of this. I would be interested in any feedback. Generally the CDN is transparent but there could be a couple files that don't play nice. So far I see no weirdness.

I'm still working on webserver and browser caching settings. We should get another huge boost in speed after that.

Thanks,
Sean

I've noticed a couple odd things. It could be that it's taking a while for the content to cache up around the world. I'll keep monitoring and if it fails to perform well I'll disable..

I'm not seeing any weirdness (aside from the little quirks and strangeness I bring to the table myself.) I'm currently viewing APUG from an Android phone with a relatively lame mobile data connection - everything seems to be loading with a tad more alacrity than it did a few days ago, including the gallery and search results.

The dedicated app coming out for this forum is close. Word is they are about to announce it. Once released the google play and apple app store will have an APUG app for download. It will be the best mobile experience for APUG yet

Actually, when the site first came back online, I had a bit of a cry about the lack of a dedicated mobile skin because I kept inadvertantly hitting "Mark All Read" instead of "New" or "Today's Posts" and I just couldn't seem to navigate around the site at all. Since then, a few menus have been rearranged and I LOVE the site as it renders now. Previously, Tapatalk wouldn't show images unless I was signed in, but if I was signed in the "Timeline" function didn't work at all. With the mobile web site I didn't have access to the gallery and images in forum threads just showed the paper clip icon with "Attached Thumbnail" written beside it.
With the new site as it is now, I can access the gallery AND view images within a thread. Perfect, particularly given that this IS a photography forum - being able to see photos is a considerable bonus!

I was about to say the speed was find for me, but perhaps I'm a bit closer to the content to begin with.

The addition was a bit odd at first. When I got back to my computer certain links were missing, the reply windows were gone, and logging in took me to a login page instead of that overlay. I figured I'd log-out and on, but could not log out. Then I cleared my cache & such, and closed the browser. No difference when I got back on.

Then I found NoScript showed a new blockable item for APUG - netdna-cdn.com.
All is fine now, but it was a bit funny working this out.

I've been doing that on the non-mobile version - I think it's because the link order is different than it used to be.

I notice that with my iPad, and not my Mac or my Win7 machine, I have to touch links twice to get them to work. I don't notice this on other sites or forums.

Well I was going to say that nothing had changed, except when I went to reply I noticed that there wasn't a reply box.
Told noscript to allow 'netdna-cdn.com' and it came back.
