Hi All,

Social groups are back. You can access the area from the "Groups" link in the APUG main menu. As far as I can tell we successfully imported group owners, members, discussions and photos.

The area is still under construction and more functionality will come.

When a group has new content you will see an alert in your menu "Alerts" area:

Also, be sure to tinker with the groups view settings located at the bottom of groups list pages:

Any questions or issues let me know.

Thanks,
Sean

The alert feature sounds great. I know social groups was a lot of work, thank you very much!
This should work well as the old system could not really notify you of new content. Maybe it will bring some new activity to the groups area.

Having to go to each group to see what was new was a real turn-off.
The "Alerts" functionality is a real blessing.
Thanks, Sean, for your work on this!!
I'm also working on a main groups landing page that is more like a portal page for all the groups. It will show categories, recent added groups, groups with recent activity, recent discussions, recent photos and more.

hey sean

alerts are great, huge thanks !

will the groups disccussion be integrated in the main forum, like the soap box is now ?
the soapbox has thousands of "views" where it used to not get many. maybe the groups
will have a better life/be more active, if their lives were more "visible" ?

It might be possible and worth looking into. Also, might be useful having a new sidebar block that displays recent discussions in groups you belong to.

Having the side bar for groups that am involved with would be good.

Can activity in the groups show under "New" posts?

Looking into it, but for now you'll get alerts (unless you turn off alerts for social groups in your control panel).

I updated this thread with some info about display settings for the group. You'll see this option at the bottom of the groups list pages:

a minor suggestion: instead of "member of groups" perhaps "My Groups" would be a bit more intuitive to signal groups of which one is already a member?
