Hi All,

We're now running an adblock detector. This lets members and visitors know if ads and other scripts on APUG are being blocked. It seems to work well in my tests. I have tried hard to make our ads non-invasive and low key. Also, our ads are mostly by small companies that support traditional photography. I have been contacted at times by small business owners who mention they are surviving via APUG advertising. I think it would be a shame for anyone using APUG to block their ads and I hope others share the same sentiment.
Thanks,
Sean

Sean, I share your concerns.
I've installed Adblock plus (with Firefox), it has however been disabled for apug.org ever since I use it.
While I never got "complaints" on the old site, now there are constant remainders I should turn off adblock, even, when adblock is entirely disabled.
May be, your detector is a bit allergic?
Small thing. Take care!
Pitt

I have it disabled as well, but it is still blocking. I need to know the script name I guess.

Sean,

For me it's the flash. I'd love to see the ads, but anything flash-based is a no-go for me. Too many security issues with that old beast.

Firefox 44.0.2 here (on Win7x64)
Flash disabled by default (and currently not enabled for APUG)
After setting ADP to enable ads for apug.org, no warnings

Life is good (if snowy!)

APUG is and always has been the single only exception to my ad block installation. I see making that exception as just another way of supporting traditional film-based photography. Plus, I like the ads. After all, at some point somebody had better be making some money, or all of this just disappears.

There does seem to be a few false positives. It will remind every 3hrs but it should only do it once after you disable adblock. I am trying to find what causes a false positive. For those still getting notified can you tell me your OS and browser? Thanks!

Ok, i re-enabled it but you should only see it once now after disabling (possibly if you logout and clear cookies). You might see it one more time though (sorry). Thanks

nope, I see it every time I click on a thread, or a menu item, or "new" or whatever

Firefox 44.0.2 32bit here (on Win7x64)
Flash disabled by default (and not enabled for APUG)
ADP disabled for apug.org - or disabled all together

Adblocker warning comes up upon visiting site. Warning can be clicked away, and may stay away.
Occasionally when clicking on a new thread it comes up again.
Apparently erratic, can't find a system.

Best! P.

I've had to disable it, the plugin seems flaky. I will probably go with a one off forum notice in the header about adblock that can then be permanently x'ed out.
