Definitely worth a look, but Borat will hit the theaters this Friday and that will surely consume any movie going time I'll have for quite a few weeks.
 
I think I want to see it, but...sometimes have problems with films adapted from books (depends how commited I am to 'my' version, or if I can accept that it really is completely different). Will this be worse? Also, I have a feeling she would really hate this idea....

Borat was adapted from a book?
 
I am definitely going to see this movie. Will report later on my thoughts. Was this adapted from the Patricia Bosworth book?

Hell No, I'm not letting them see that.

The prioritization is due to the fact that I nearly laugh myself into incontinence every time I view a clip from it. It's already a cult classic and hasn't even been released. I'm almost counting the hours.
 
I'm loooking forward to seeing this. I still have a hard time seeing Nicole Kidman as Diane Arbus. She seems not quite right... too tall, perhaps?

I don't know... Natalie Portman, maybe?

I'll definitely see it. I saw the trailer a month or so back. While it may not be much in the way of an actual biography, I enjoyed the look of reverence on Nicole Kidman's face while she slowly unwraps a Rollei.

And the Rollei gets a close up! Gotta love that. :tongue:

Also, a Sinar Norma 5x7 with what looks to be a Commercial Ektar gets a lot of screen time too.
 
I will definitely have a hard time with Nicole Kidman as Diane Arbus. she's too ....hmm.... 'cute'. I agree, the cameras will be the best bit. :smile:

There's an interview with the Director, Steven Shainberg, in the current issue of American PHOTO.

Although the film is supposedly based on Bosworth's bio, Shainberg apparently added quite a bit himself -- his "father and uncle had known Arbus through her lover Marvin Israel." The article/interview goes on to say the "movie is mostly fiction" focusing on an "invented relationship" and "tries to imagine the artistic transformation" Arbus underwent "during three months in 1958."

Still, I intend to see it.

Yikes, Nicole Kidman... I don't like to put down another Aussie but I think she is a B grade actress at best. I think I'll give it a miss...

And what about her judgement... Tom Cruise and then a guy who has to go into major rehab a few months after here comes the bride....:smile:

As to Nicole's taste in men well... when they first married, Tom Cruise wasn't the Scientology whack-job he has become since. Her second husband can be excused as an affaire d' coeur that blinded her to reality. Judge not lest ye be judged. I'm sure we've all had our romantic mistakes. And besides, in the end, who are we to say what makes someone else happy? look at Lytton Strachey and Dora Carrington - a mismatched pair if there ever was one, but they made each other happy in their way. Or Spencer Tracy and Kate Hepburn.

I started the thread to see if others had an interest in the movie itself as I did. If I distanced myself from the actors/actresses and musicians whose talents and morals I questioned (appearances too!), I'd definitely be missing out on alot of artistic talent. Chacun pour soi.

It should be an interesting movie (I think). We shall see!!!

I'm not judging Nicole Kidman's choice in men, nor do I think she's a bad actress. I'm just not sure she's quite right for this part. My opinion is really based solely on her looks.. somehow too tall, too cute to pull off that intense gaze of Diane Arbus. Well, I still plan to see it, after all, she did win an oscar for portraying Virginia Woolf, I suppose, she may surprise us!

If not, at least, as other's have mentioned, we'll see come cool cameras! :wink:

She was very good as Virginia Woolf, even though she is really too pretty to be Woolf, and I thought I wouldn't like her in it. Agree I can't quite see her as Arbus, but we'll see, maybe I'll prove myself wrong again. Can't wait to see it now - thanks Dorothy for bringing it to the forefront of our attention! Pity we can't all see it together :D

I like your original thought of having Natalie Portman play the role. She's got that wide-eyed-innocent worldliness about her that I think would suit the part well. But they didn't ask us, now did they?! Regardless, I think it will be an interesting movie and I'm looking forward to seeing it.
