Bashing? Just a phanatish? To me the statement in the OP picture is 100% true. Here is the real world example.

I became interested in street photography about eight years ago. Started with mobile phone, switched to advanced digital P&S, switched to small consumer DSLR and switched to 35mm DSLR. Thousands of pictures, but nothing to be proud. It is all started for real at the day I have purchased Oly XA in Vancouver BC and took it to the streets. It was real breakthrough to me in street photography. BW film and limited amount of frames set me free. At my second trip to Vancouver I have stopped to use digital for street photography completely, because it became waste of space in the bag and waste of time. Now if I walk with my film Leica for few hours on the street I might not finish 36 frames roll, but get enough keepers to work in the darkroom for couple of months and have better feeling and look of the picture comparing to what I was getting from digital.
No bashing, but real fact.

It is truly sad that so many shooters of the d****** medium employ 'spray and pray' ..."If I set the camera at 6-8fps, and hold down the shutter button, I just might capture (a great facial expression/the athlete at the peak of action/nobody blinking)" Guys covering weddings and delivering 5000 shots is not unheard of! Cameras with 100000 shutter exposures having all of them depleted within 3 years.

Trying something new, trying to push things in extreme circumstances, those are valid attempts, not wasteful 6fps blasting 'because its free'.

At the same time, all too often folks shoot 135 exposures simply because, "a shot is almost free" compared to medium format or 4x5. I have gone out a number of times and not exposed a single piece of sheetfilm. Or perhaps shooting less than a half dozen shots on MedFormat. How many have done the same for 135?!

Henri Cartier Bresson said "We shouldn’t also leave the scene too early and stop shooting– but at the same time, not add too much clutter by wasting frames by shooting too much."

So how much is too much in the digital age? With larger and larger memory cards, shooting extra for "good measure" helps calm the inner voice of the insecure photographer.

In the end you're either a good photographer or you're not, regardless of whether you shoot 2000 pictures or 1 picture at a time. What is nice about digital is you can afford to make many exposures of a subject, which increases the odds of having one be exposed optimally. That in no way diminishes the skill of the photographer. It's a tool.

It is all too common, unfortunately, for the analog community to assume using film is a virtue. The fact is, most digital photographers stink, and most analog photographers stink.

What people do with their camera is their own business and I don't see what would give me the right to judge whoever's practice. Also I doubt very much that switching from a analog to a d.... camera (or the opposite) would change the way to practice photography, even street photography. I regularly follow some hybrid (analog and d...) photo forums and even if those posting are analog or d... users, what they post (pictures and comments) is pretty similar. Too, they mostly share their love of photography without being dense about gear.

In fact, you mostly defend an idea of photography which is (what a chance!) YOUR idea of photography. Hipsters using films? Not good enough! D... users: Evil!

Sorry to say that but this site sometimes smells stuffy.

Speaking of street photography, Daido Moriyama switched from analog to d... You certainly noticed that his recent works are wayyyy worse than before. Too bad he has such a low self-esteem he decided to increase his crap shots / good shots ratio... At least, you have now a good reason to do better than him!

Sorry, I'm not into digital photography of any kind as art. The whole argument what someone who is more less known to be street photographer switched to digital and it means what digital is superior is very weak argument to me.
The only reason why someone from known photographers is switching to film is because they depend on their photography. But I'm truly independent street photographer, I don't need to prove anything to anyone and get the picture no matter what. Sorry, but if the person has switched to digital to be able to keep up with competitors and for his own convenience it means to me what he is looser.
I have zero interest in photographs like from those. Film, yes, switched to digital, "kiss my ass and goodbye".
Where is usually another argument from those who has switched to digital, how they can't see the difference from the film. And they are even more losers, no, visually impaired people to me.

Enjoy your all you can yet. Sorry to be more picky for what I consume as photographs.

not me, a camera is a camera is a camera, i pretty much use them all the same and sometimes
i use the heel of my shoe to hammer nails in

that said, if you like to do what you like to do, by all means continue because in the end
the only thing that matters is that you are enjoying yourself, or if you are being hired by someone ..
that they like the results.

The American sniper with the farthest kill on record (50 cal)...in Viet Nam, 2500 yards. Some Canadian gents have done a little better in Afghanistan with 50 cal.

Nope -- these were 50 cal machine guns...but set on single round. Browning M2 machine gun.

Correction - the Canadians did not use a machine gun.

Since 1990 I've shot my .50BMG Barrett M82A1 (a semiauto) in competition at 1000 yards and also at 1 mile - at that distance I personally can't get an entire five shot group all inside 1 MOA (about 10 inches), but at that distance one's ability to read the wind is the prime factor in accuracy.

But, yeah, normally sniper rifles are bolt action.

When I see a composition, I shoot as many photographs as I need. Usually one.
