Hi,
does anyone know if fungus inside the viewfinder glass of AE Finder FN (Canon New F1) can be removed easily?
It causes a lot of flare when the camera is pointed towards very bright subjects making the exposure information difficult to read.
Thank you.

Honestly, I do not know if the Fresnel is removable on this model. Most likely it is, if that is where the fungus is coming from (i.e., between the Fresnel and the lower prism side). If so, you might be able to access its removal from the mount area: on some cameras the Fresnel is held by a tiny lever which might allow the Fresnel to drop down.

Barring that, your only choice might be to remove the top cover and deal with that.

But, of major importance here are a few youtube videos that can be found by Googling "canon f1 prism removal". - David Lyga

Thanks for the reply.
The fungus appears to be on the inside of the glass right in front of my eye as I look thru the viewfinder (owners manual calls it the eyepiece).
The finder can be detached from the camera body. I see a couple of tiny screws on the sides of the AE Finder but I'm not sure if the prism can be removed to clean the inside of the eye piece glass.

The prism can be disassembled. It would help if you had a repair manual to help guide you. I've taken apart and cleaned the eye-level prism for the original F-1, but have no experience with the AE Finder FN. Maybe you can find a repair manual online. Good luck.

Yes you can disassemble the prism but i would not advise it unless you have some experience of working on cameras .There are hidden screws behind the eyepiece that need to be removed

Thank you all for the advice. Think I'll have to send it to a repair shop.
