I would like to announce my 2025 Carbon Printing Workshop in Yosemite Valley (at the Ansel Adams Gallery) that will be held Wednesday, 9 April through Saturday, 12 April. I limit the workshop to 6 participants and it presently has three openings. The workshop is based out of Ansel’s old family home and darkroom.
Along with our co-instructor, Jim Fitzgerald, and two assistants, I will guide you through carbon printing process. By our last day, Saturday (a full day of printing), our goal is to get the participants to a level where they can comfortably make prints with minimal over-sight. We use in-camera negative for teaching the process and schedule two half-day field photographic sessions during the workshop. During each field session, participants make two 8x10 images for use during the workshop. We supply two 8x10 cameras and film (and any/all assistance needed) and I develop the film that night. Participants are free to use their own cameras (up to 8x10). Participants may also bring negatives (in-camera or digital) from home to work with.
Even though we will be using film negatives, the workshop will give people the working knowledge of the carbon printing process that they will need to begin making digital negatives if they so desire. Below is a link to the workshop site, and a short video from a previous workshop.

I believe the workshop is well priced priced. However Yosemite Valley accommodations tend not to be. The Ansel Adams Gallery does hold rooms at the Yosemite Lodge for participants, but there is no price break. A less expensive option is renting a tent cabin (get one with a heater!) The campgrounds in the Valley are closed during the first two weeks of April for hazard tree removal (I just found out)...make any reservations ASAP.
